Le gouvernement du Canada verse plus de 51 millions de dollars à des chercheurs canadiens
FREDERICTON (NOUVEAU-BRUNSWICK) ̶ Le gouvernement du Canada saisit l’importance d’investir dans les scientifiques et chercheurs du pays dont les découvertes contribuent à améliorer notre économie, notre environnement, notre santé et nos collectivités. Voilà pourquoi le gouvernement octroie plus de 51 millions de dollars à des chercheurs de partout au pays afin qu’ils puissent acquérir les outils de pointe nécessaires pour mener de la recherche de calibre mondial.
L’honorable Kirsty Duncan, ministre des Sciences, est aujourd’hui à l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick pour annoncer l’octroi de 51 968 051 de dollars à 223 projets répartis dans 39 universités canadiennes. Le financement provient du Fonds des leaders John-R.-Evans de la Fondation canadienne pour l’innovation, lequel aide les universités à attirer et à maintenir en poste les meilleurs chercheurs au monde en leur procurant les outils requis pour demeurer à l’avant-garde.
L’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick reçoit la somme de 150 000 dollars pour se doter d’un microscope de pointe afin d’observer, en 3D et en temps réel, la croissance, la transformation et les déplacements des cellules dans des embryons de poissons zèbres. Grâce à ce financement, des chercheurs, comme Bryan Crawford à l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick, qui veut mieux comprendre comment les anormalités présentes dans la croissance des cellules sont liées à des maladies comme l’arthrite, la cardiopathie et le cancer. Cette infrastructure sera unique au Canada atlantique et permettra à l’établissement universitaire de devenir un centre d’excellence en biologie cellulaire et microscopie confocale.
Que ce soit dans les domaines de la santé, du génie, des télécommunications, de la protection environnementale ou autres, le gouvernement du Canada, par l’entremise de la Fondation canadienne pour l’innovation, continue à procurer aux chercheurs les installations et l’équipement de pointe nécessaires pour mener des travaux de recherche de calibre mondial dont bénéficient directement tous les Canadiens et favoriser la croissance de la classe moyenne.

- En 2016, le gouvernement du Canada et les gouvernements des quatre provinces de l’Atlantique ont dévoilé la Stratégie de croissance pour l’Atlantique qui veut stimuler la croissance économique dans la région en concentrant les efforts et les ressources fédéraux et provinciaux dans cinq domaines d’action : 1) main-d’œuvre qualifiée et immigration; 2) innovation; 3) croissance verte et changements climatiques; 4) commerce et investissements; 5) infrastructure.
