TED speaker Andrew Pelling to give keynote address at annual public meeting
OTTAWA, ONTARIO – TED2016 speaker, Andrew Pelling, creates human body parts from plants and has grown living skin on LEGO. He is an award-winning scientist — well-known for growing human ears on apple slices — and an entrepreneur.
He co-founded Spiderwort, a company that develops open source platforms for the widespread and global adoption of biological research in all environments and economic contexts. And more recently, he founded pHacktory, described as “a street-level research lab that amplifies community ideas through a potent mixture of craft, serendipity and curiosity.”
The Canada Foundation for Innovation is pleased to host Pelling — who is a University of Ottawa professor and Canada Research Chair in Experimental Cell Mechanics — as the keynote speaker at our annual public meeting on December 5 in Ottawa. We invite you to come hear him describe how his curiosity-driven research lab brings together artists, engineers, and natural and social scientists to explore living technologies of the future.
