Search for Chief Science Advisor for Canada begins

Ottawa, Ontario – A new chapter for Canada’s science community began Monday, when the Minister of Science, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, announced the launch of the search for a Chief Science Advisor Monday morning in the historic library of the National Research Council.

“The Canada Foundation for Innovation welcomes the announcement of this position,” says Gilles Patry, CFI President and CEO. “In addition to ensuring the advancement of research and innovation in Canada, the Advisor will help promote the increasing importance of science in all aspects of our lives.”

The new Chief Science Advisor will counsel the government on how to make government science available to the public, encourage scientists to speak publicly about their work and promote the use of scientific analyses in government decision making. The Advisor will also provide scientific advice on other science and research components of relevance to Canada. 

Information about the position is available on the Governor in Council website and candidates have until January 27, 2017 to apply.
