CFI awards close to $1.8 million in research infrastructure to support Canada Research Chairs
OTTAWA, ONTARIO — Today, the Government of Canada is investing close to $1.8 million through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) for research infrastructure to support nine Canada Research Chairs (CRCs) at eight institutions. Awarded through the CFI’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF), this investment includes more than $400,000 to operate and maintain the research equipment and labs.
The CFI-funded projects will contribute to a range of research areas, including understanding cardiovascular disease and its comorbidities; addressing social justice and human rights through theater; and improving success in mathematics for Canadian children.
In partnership with the CRC Program, JELF allows universities to attract top talent in diverse fields of research by providing them with the state-of-the-art infrastructure required to think big and innovate. The CRC Program is investing more than $102 million toward 119 new and renewed Chairs at 35 institutions across Canada.
