Cutting-edge equipment supports a new generation of researchers who picture their work in Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO — Researchers passionate about launching meaningful careers will follow whatever path necessary to answer the compelling questions that drive them — whether it takes them to a different province, or even a different country. Having access to state-of-the-art labs and equipment can often seal the deal in their decision. The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) plays a critical role in doing just that, and in the process, is helping Canada attract and retain some of the world’s top new research talent.

Today, the CFI begins a campaign that highlights the ambitions and accomplishments of this new generation of researchers who are building a future right here in Canada.

As part of the campaign the CFI is releasing a focus group report that looks at the impact research infrastructure funding has on new researchers. Among other things, the study — which involved discussions with almost 60 early-career researchers leading CFI-funded research projects and 13 research administrators at universities across Canada — found that CFI funding is used by institutions to attract top talent and that it sets researchers on the right path to launch their careers and enable research outcomes.
