2015 and 2017 Cyberinfrastructure Initiative

The Cyberinfrastructure Initiative aimed to enhance the capacity of Canadian institutions and researchers to conduct leading-edge research in areas of demonstrated strength by supporting the infrastructure needs of computationally- and data-intensive research.

OVERVIEW

The Cyberinfrastructure Initiative aimed to enhance the capacity of Canadian institutions and researchers to conduct leading-edge research in areas of demonstrated strength by supporting the infrastructure needs of computationally- and data-intensive research.

Through the Cyberinfrastructure Initiative, we presented two Challenges:

Challenge 1

Challenge 1 of the Cyberinfrastructure Initiative involved two competitions through which we invested in research data infrastructure projects that enabled communities of researchers, along with data scientists, data analysts, software developers and other experts to devise optimal ways of organizing and using research data resources to enhance the community’s capacity to conduct leading-edge research.

The objectives of Challenge 1 of the Cyberinfrastructure Initiative were:

  • Scientific excellence
  • Impact and ongoing relevance
  • Feasibility

Challenge 2

Challenge 2 of the Cyberinfrastructure Initiative involved two competitions, through which we invested in upgrades and modernization of the computational and data storage capacities of the pan-Canadian advanced research computing platform, managed by Compute Canada.
